The circuit

Between causses and valleys, mountains and gorges, this itinerary will take you to the 10 most beautiful villages of the Aveyron including Estaing in the magnificent and verdant Lot valley, Najac overlooking the Gorges de l’Aveyron and Conques and its treasure… From the high Aubrac plateau passing via the Gorges du Tarn, this tour covers the whole of the département. Of an average level of difficulty, this tour alternates difficulties throughout the circuit.

The Aubrac plateau

Stage N°1 : Entraygues sur Truyère - Aubrac

The stage

Put together by those passionate about cycling at the Club Lot et Truyère, this tour of the 10 Plus Beaux Villages de France in the Aveyron let’s you discover the département whilst enjoying a passion. The 700 km circuit will delight you with the beauty of the landscape and the tranquillity of its roads. This first warm-up stage crosses the high ground above the Truyère onto the Aubrac plateau. A beautiful stage that’s always on the up!

Plunge into the heart of the Lot Valley

Stage N°2 : Aubrac - Peyreleau

The stage

After discovering the Aubrac plateau and its burons, plunge into the heart of the Lot Valley and discover two of the listed villages of this tour, Saint Côme d'Olt and Sainte Eulalie d'Olt. Halfway along the stage the scenery changes! Stop at the top of the vineyards to observe the impressive Gorges du Tarn and finish this day in the small village of Rozier.

Knights Templar village of La Couvertoirade

Stage N°3 : Peyreleau - Nant

The stage

You leave the Gorges du Tarn to enter the Gorges de la Jonte. Flown over by the Griffon vultures, a magnificent spectacle awaits you. During this long stage you will discover impressive viewpoints including Mont Aigoual for example (view of the sea in good weather!). At the end of the day, you will leave the Monts and Gorges behind you for an easier ride across the Larzac plateau. A short return trip is a must to visit the listed Knights Templar village of La Couvertoirade.

A short break

Stage N°4 : Nant - Réquista

The stage

You are in the heart of the Gorges de la Dourbie before reaching the town of Millau and its famous viaduct. Stop at Peyre (listed village with a magnificent view of the viaduct) and discover its troglodyte church. Pass through the Raspes du Tarn: a waterfall and viewpoints line this route. A beautiful stop at Brousse le Château, the other listed village along this circuit will be a welcome sight before reaching Réquista.

The bastide of Sauveterre de Rouergue

Stage N°5 : Réquista - Najac

The stage

A tour rich in heritage. From sheep country (Réquista) to the listed village of Najac and its magnificent château, you will ride a technical route. Successive climbs and descents take you to the superb listed bastide of Sauveterre de Rouergue. Discover the Viaur viaduct and take a break in the hamlet of Castelmary.

Discover the Aveyron valley

Stage N°6 : Najac - Capdenac

The stage

You will cross Bastide de Rouergue country and follow the Aveyron valley discovering the romantic listed village of Belcastel. From this village, you will drop gently towards the Causses de Rouergue taking breaks in places like Peyrusse-le-roc. At the end of the day take time in the charming Diège valley, known as the valley of watermills, before finishing your stage in Capdenac.

Follow the green Lot valley

Stage N°7 : Capdenac - Entraygues sur Truyère

The stage

For this last stage you finish gently. You follow the green Lot valley discovering the sumptuous listed villages of Conques and Estaing and you will complete the circuit at Entraygues-sur-Truyère. On the way take a break at the Maison de la Rivière in Saint Parthem (a very pretty village). Let your curiosity get the better of you in St Cyprien-sur-Dourdou, perhaps the miller will be at work…
