The Aveyron

2nd category No Kill river:

  • This is the river that flows through Rodez, the county town of the département.
  • Its source is upstream of Séverac le Château in the east of the Aveyron
  • It has no dams which release sudden amounts of water
  • It is a river that, for most of its length, winds its way through fields
  • It is classed as a 1st category river for its fish life down to Palmas (where it meets La Serre)

River at Laissac

  • Average river width is 8 m (26 feet) and the average depth is 1 metre (3 feet)
  • The river is made up of a mix of ledges and pools
  • Accessibility is relatively easy on the right bank from the Laissac football pitch (stade) car park
  • The banks are raised and relatively cluttered
  • Classed as private property, you must have the owner’s permission to cross their property
  • The density of brown trout in the river is poor
  • The average size of fish is 30 cm (max 50 cm)
  • Fishing techniques that can be used are float, fly and all types of lure fishing
  • Significant non predator fish population

River at Rodez

  • Average river width is 12 m (40 feet) and the average depth is 1 metre (3 feet)
  • The river is made up of a succession of currents
  • Access is very easy on the right bank
  • The left bank is steep and inaccessible
  • This section of the river is for beginners (regular releases of fish through to the summer)
  • The density of trout in the river is high (average 30 cm)
  • Fishing techniques that can be used are float and fly
  • Large numbers of non predator fish (chub, common dace, barbell, gudgeon, minnow…)

River at Moyrazes

  • Average river width is 15 m (50 feet) and the average depth is 1 metre (3 feet)
  • The river is made up of a mix of ledges and pools
  • Accessibility to the banks is average and only on the left bank
  • Access to the river and progress is average because the banks are over grown and oblige anglers to fish from the water
  • Classed as private property, you must have the owner’s permission to cross their property
  • The density of brown trout on this river is poor (fish size 25/30 cm)
  • Trophy size fish can reach 50 cm
  • Fishing techniques that can be used are float, fly and all types of lure fishing
  • Significant non predator fish population
