Lac des Galens


A lake for small boats

  • Dammed lake situated on the Aubrac plateau fed by the Selvet.
  • Surface area 50 ha/125 acres
  • Max depth 15 m/50 feet
  • Lake on a plain with shallow sloping sides, numerous sandy beaches and uncluttered bed
  • Access points are numerous and easy
  • No daily change in water level as there is no hydroelectric production on this lake
  • Launching of large boats is difficult as there is no specific slip
  • The upstream half of the lake is unnavigated
  • Predator fish present: perch, zander and pike
  • The perch density is significant and the average size is around 20 cm (very few fish reach over 30 cm)
  • Zander are also present in number with an average size of 40 cm (few large fish)
  • However pike are very seldom present but can reach a good size (regularly around one metre)
